Where do we take you?

Our first stop is Port William Hut in the heart of Rakiura. This is the perfect opportunity to get some beautiful photos, stretch your legs and breath in the sweet scent of nature.

From here, we make our way to Horseshoe Bay where you will have the opportunity to check out walking tracks and other natural beauties.

Neighbouring Horseshoe Bay on the eastern coast of Stewart Island is Half Moon Bay, and this will be our lunch time stop. You will be free to meander through the township of Oban, or grab a bite to eat at the local pub.

Visitors to the area are sure to appreciate how unique this township is.

From the gardens of Moturau Moana which take the accolade as New Zealand’s southernmost public gardens, to the many inlets and walking tracks, there’s everything to love.

Visitors can even chuckle at the mistake made by early cartographers when naming Halfmoon and Horseshoe Bays. You see, Halfmoon Bay looks like a horseshoe, whilst Horseshoe Bay looks like a half moon.

Primarily, the main transport used to and from the town of Oban are fishing fleets and a ferry service. This makes our service so much more special and unique. We are more than just transport, we are providing a fun and relaxing experience.

What happens next?

Most forms of transport to and from Stewart Island are only convenient for one-way trips.

This is what makes Southern Charters so special. We not only provide an unforgettable tour from the mainland to Stewart Island, but we then take you home again. Our entire trip is completed in five-six hours, giving you plenty of time to soak up the sights, sounds and entertainment available in both Bluff and Invercargill.

Owner/operator of Southern Charters, Lindsay Turner, looks forward to welcoming you aboard his boat ‘The Beast’.
